RIDGES RUN, SUNDAY 1st SEPTEMBER.
Chris Robinson took over the Ridges Run (the first one he has led) at short notice as Mike was unable to lead. It’s always a lovely run as the views can be amazing but this year the mist conspired to hide them and restrict them to glimpses for an hour or so.As the day progressed, visibility improved.
I had to go on my 2009 Bonneville as all three of my vintage bikes are experiencing magneto problems.
Twenty-one riders, including visitors from the Rotherham and Burton areas, met at the Yondermann. The forecast had been heavy rain but all we encountered was thick mist.
From Wardlow Mires, we progressed via back roads through Eyam, Abney and a loop North of Hathersage, where a group of us came to the end of Coggers lane, to find that there was no one there to tell us which way to go!
We turned right as left would take us back to Hathersage and after a couple of junctions, we found Gordon waiting for us.Shortly later we found most of the rest of the group, with the exception of a couple of others who had gone straight to the lunch stop.
Lovely lanes through Edale, Rushup, Peak Dale, Wormhill, Millers Dale and Taddington took us to Monyash, where we all finally regrouped for lunch.
The much improved conditions in the afternoon gave us a lovely run through Hartington, Alstonfield, Parwich and Youlgrave to finish at the Whitworth Centre, Darley Dale.
Chris had planned a brilliant route for his first run, with a variety of roads, from twisty, narrow lanes to the odd stretch of major roads, with everything in between.Everyone enjoyed a great day out.
